Addressing My DTIYS + An apology to Ian (Long Post)

I’d like to bring attention to the whitewashing that has been happening in entries for my DTIYS post. I know that some people have already brought attention to this and I feel it’s more important to look at their posts and comments on it as I feel I have no room to speak on the matter which I will explain further in this post.

The only thing I can ask of people in this section is to not harass anyone. I don’t think anyone should get off scot free, but I also don’t believe in harassing people in general. I simply wish for people to calmly address any issues they may have and for them to try to be civil about this matter as I’d feel saddened knowing people are being harassed for joining my contest. I’d feel like a catalyst in how people react to it (´･-･｀)

Furthermore, please stop defending people who do whitewash. If someone points out someone changing the skin color on a post, please don’t go and attack them solely because the original poster is an artist you look up to. It is a matter that they should address in their own words. Adding your input only further causes drama on their post (｡ŏ_ŏ)

This section is an apology to Ian. We did an account swap a while ago and I did lighten his skin. He did send me a reference image, but while I was coloring it in, I didn’t look back to get the exact colors and it resulted in his skin being very light in comparison to how he actually draws himself. I didn’t even notice until a comment pointed it out and that is my fault. This apology is long overdue, but I hope to still hear his input on it, regardless of my bad timing.

For that, I apologize. This is a mistake that I should have fixed and made sure of when coloring. If you wish for me to redo it, want to delete it, or want me to address it further, please tell me.

I do not want to see any comments saying they “forgive” me unless it is from Ian directly. I feel people seem to think any apology that a “bigger” creator makes is up for grabs and anyone can have an opinion on it, but this is a direct apology to him and only he has a say in whether he forgives me or not.

That is all I have to say on this matter. I hope this brings a little awareness to the situation and people learn a bit from this. Pissy ♡ and White Washing Alert have made posts about it which I feel people should look at to get a grasp as to what to be aware of.

This is not supposed to be a drama post and I know some people will take it that way. It is simply to bring attention to an issue, and help people be more aware about how they play a part in it all (ᵕ≀ ̠ᵕ )

Edit: I will be taking into account the skin color of the entries. This isn’t really to spite anyone and it’s not a decision I made after the whole situation was brought to light. I was going to go off how accurate it is to the character, how unique it looks, and overall execution of the drawing, which obviously means I have to look at the drawing objectively and fairly. I just wanted to say this as I’ve commented on the posts I’ve seen, that of which includes the ones that have made her lighter and I don’t want people to think I’m favoring any posts with my comments （＾・ﻌ・＾✿）
