Hypothetically speaking, if we were to give the excess amount of money to other people with occupations that can work cooperatively with police (Such as a mental health professional or social services), police brutality cases (A major argument of why police should be defunded in the first place) may decrease.

I’m aware of the false pretenses that the media can spread. I’m actually in a research class and I try to use my knowledge of credibility to fine reliable sources. ⁽⁽ଘ( ˊᵕˋ )ଓ⁾⁾ I agree that not all officers should be “punished” as a consequence for only a small percentage of actual bad police, but keep in mind, the nation spends about $100 billion on policing annually. Compared to other community programs, such as medical health professions, police departments take a large percentage of discretionary funds (Ranging from 20 to 40%)

No problem haha I don’t think anyone can really change my beliefs on the matter either. I still feel the police aren’t suited for every case scenario, even if he pulled a gun on them (•∋•) There were at least 4 officers there which only furthers my resolve in the matter. My wording was a bit off on that comment （｡>‿<｡ ）Both cases I mentioned were indeed, in my opinion, high stress scenarios. I meant non-threatening in the case of other 911 calls such as in the case of Tyran Pinkins. Theoretically speaking, if a medical professional were on the scene, they would’ve noticed he was having a seizure and maybe excessive force wouldn’t have been used since he wasn’t resisting arrest in the first place. I hope that clears it up ><

Of course! Debates should be open for discussion and mature (♡ >ω< ♡) I’ll always stand by that. And whilst I don’t know the logistics of his death, I do know that it was the spark that started everything. It to me, brought to light the changes that needed to be made and I do feel the police could do with less pay as distributing funds to other people with experience in, for example, mental health or knowledge on medical issues, would allow for a less tense political climate.

Even in the case of George Floyd, whilst he may have had a bad history, the police should have waited to confirm whether or not the $20 bill was counterfeit or not. It’s more of how the case was handled in my opinion. Same goes for Breonna Taylor. One shot, while yes, unnecessary, also doesn’t justify more than 20 subsequent shots being fired into an apartment. Simply put, defunding the police would allow for better handling of cases especially when they’re non-threatening. I’m also for longer training periods as guns should be the very last resort and clearly, with the media and news having an increase in police brutality cases, it’s not what is occurring and that on it’s own shows that the police are unfit, or at the very least, not as experienced as they should be. (•̀ᴗ•́)و ̑̑

I do believe that the police play an important role in keeping society safe, but recently, given the political climate, it’s been shown that the police aren’t fit to handle every situation. I feel that by relocating some funds from the police to give to other occupational programs would immensely improve the way cases are handled. For example, police brutality cases aren’t uncommon and in order to decrease the amount of which they occur, police should only arrive on scene for cases that they’re actually needed for.
