Speaking from personal experience, anything you learn improves your learning ability, any form of art you learn improves your art ability, and any form of drawing you learn improves your drawing ability. Even if replicating references is how I learned to draw, I still programmed drawing into my mind and I can use that gained experience to learn new things at any age because it's never too late to start.

i've been watching chommang_drawing when I want to learn something at a beginner's level, a high level of art like Proko can only be done once you have every inch of the fundamentals down like construction, spheres, visualizing quick-perspective to properly angle how something should look, and the shapes of body parts. Things like clothes(fashion,folds,wrinkles), faces(eyes,mouth,ears,eyebrows,eyelashes,age,etc), hair(hair styles, flow,rendering,shading), muscle/anatomy,posing/expression, AND MORE are just really nice accessories for those basics

that's exactly how I used to feel for almost a whole year lol, I don't feel that way about my art as much as I used to, but my traditional ability next to my observation ability is still a big difference and I'm trying to get better at my personal drawing skills rather than just drawing frames of anime forever.
