If you're asking irl, I first used it because my drawings wouldn't make it to newly arrived unless it was a few frames long, so I added the dot as a lazy way to achieve this. This no longer applies, but I still keep him around because people as well as myself grew attached :)
Character wise tho, he moved in because I had chips and air conditioning
