Bonnie Henry reminds people that phase two hasn't started yet
The provincial health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, reminded people Thursday that phase 2 of lifting pandemic restrictions was still more than a week away.
“We are now in phase 1 and continue to be in phase 1,” Henry said, after reporting two people had died in B.C. from COVID-19 between noon Wednesday and noon Thursday.
“That means we must continue what we are doing for a bit longer. That is important for us. We need to continue the measures that we are taking to bend our curve down and to get this under control.”
Henry said there were still significant risks in the community.
“We have thousands of people who are coming back, Canadians who were returning from countries that are still in the throes of a very serious upswing in cases,” she said.
“There are still people out there who are in isolation, because they have been in contact (with a sick person.) We know there’s nothing we can do to prevent them from getting ill. We just need to monitor them and make sure that that next chain of transmission isn’t happening. If we do too much, too fast, we are going to see dramatic increases, and that will set us back in a whole number of ways.”

Phase 2 of the recovery plan is to begin after the Victoria Day long weekend, which is May 16-18. Health services will be restored and hair salons/barbers, personal service establishments, museums, restaurants, cafés and pubs, art galleries, libraries, parks and beaches will reopen — but subject to strict social-distancing guidelines.
Phase 3 is set for June — as long as there is not a surge in COVID-19 cases — and includes movie theatres, hotels and resorts, gyms and the film industry.
Phase 4 will not happen until a vaccine or effective treatment is discovered, at which point large gatherings would be permitted.
