Daybreak s1 ep5

“So, uh.. Rider.” Blue spoke awkwardly. She was going to ask him about his brother - what was up with him? This kid seemed normal, while... Dash (that was his name, right?) seemed so scared and on edge. “You, uh, mentioned your brother?”
“Oh, right. Dash. He’s a security guard. You might’ve met him?” Then he mumbled about something under his breath about unfriendliness, which Blue didn’t quite catch. Now there was no doubt in her mind that this was his brother. “Yeah, we’ve met him. Not to be rude.. but he seemed.. scared of us? Do you know what that’s about?”

Rider hesitated. Oh no.. had she asked too much of him? She was about to apologise when he spoke again. “Of course he did,” Rider said, sounding unsurprised and slightly annoyed. “He’s my legal guardian since our parents died. I don’t remember them, I was four and he was eight.” Blue felt a pang of sadness for the poor dog. “I don’t know if he’d let me say this, but it was some cats that killed them. They half-blinded Dash too, and he was never the same. He hates all cats, I try to tell him it was just those two but he doesn’t believe me.”

Oh, goodness. No wonder the older green dog was so shaken. She and Red had gone through almost the exact same situation when they were kids, and it had taken Blue seven years to recover. Even now, she still had nightmares from time to time. “Oh you poor things. The same happened to me and Red. It must’ve been really traumatic - we went through seven foster homes until I was finally old enough to become Red’s guardian.” Rider’s eyes widened. “Woah. That’s odd. Well, Red will be wondering where I am. I should go talk to him.” The purple dog mused. “You seem like a nice person. I’ll, uh, see you around I guess.”
