My cat hides in my closet but it’s weird

Idk why but he just waits until one or two people are in the room instead of three or four or five but it’s creepy and weird but I leave the closet door open so he can get out and then jump back in the closet and it’s dark in my closet but I can barely see him cause he peeks his head out of the closet door
