Rider’s POV

Not even a hello - the first thing his own brother said to him when he walked through the door was ‘Where have you been?’ Rider rolled his eyes at Dash. Blue would never treat Red like this. Dash’s impatient gaze remained fixed on Rider for a good thirty seconds before Dash picked up cat scent off of Rider’s uniform. His eyes widened and the purple dog looked away guiltily. ‘Rider, don’t you know cats are dangerous!’ Snarled Dash. Ugh. Why did he have to be like this? Blue and Red were the least dangerous people in this entire stupid town. ‘They’re my friends. They won’t hurt me.’ The student said, trying to keep his voice steady.
His brother didn’t even take a second before yelling ‘They say they are, and then they’ll stab you in the back!’ Rider’s anger turned to shame as he heard the desperation in his brother’s voice, even though he knew he was in the right here. Dash continued with his rant even though his little brother had heard it all before. ‘You can’t trust cats, Rider. I’m only trying to do what’s best for you.’
‘That’s what you always say, and yet...’ Rider muttered, hoping Dash didn’t hear.
Dash heard.
‘RIDER, LISTEN TO ME!’ Dash shouted. Rider tried to meet his gaze; it was full of anger, sadness and... fear.
‘I DON’T WANT TO LOSE YOU AS WELL! STAY AWAY FROM THEM!’
Rider could feel tears welling up in his eyes. His shame and guilt was building up quickly. Even though Dash was wrong.
Dash was wrong.
Dash was wrong, to think the nicest people he’d ever met were going to hurt him. His sadness turned to anger boiling up inside him like water in a kettle. ‘THESE CATS ARE BETTER TO ME THAN YOU EVER WERE! BLUE WOULD NEVER YELL AT RED LIKE THIS!’ He blurted. His brother’s eyes filled with hurt, and Rider instantly regretted that. Dash stumbled away down their tiny hallway, leaving Rider in the porch with his anger.
