the person lying to him was someone he looked up to a lot
learning that lie he became unmotivated for volleyball and gave him trust issues
see it’s when it’s someone who look up to, that’s when it’s harmful
he closed himself off until kuroo and bokuto ended up helping him improve in volleyball and then learning to trust again along with yamaguchi
but yes, that one lie can seriously fuck him up and it did.
