To me, I feel like Iwaizumi acted aggressive in the two’s relationship because he knew Oikawa would continue his volleyball career and would leave, trying to distance himself so it wouldn’t hurt. BUT OKAY SORRY LET ME GET TO THE POINT-
Iwaizumi is a great friend to Oikawa and the two needed each other.
Iwa cares a lot for Oikawa as we see with literally them in any scene, even in middle school he constantly told him to not overwork himself as Oikawa was trying so hard to beat Shiratorizawa, mostly Ushiwaka. Also the scene, if you watched season 1 ep 22, you know what I’m talking about. SPOILERS IF YOU HAVENT, when the scene with Oikawa overworking himself to the point where he almost snapped at Kageyama, but luckily Iwaizumi was there to stop him and tell him off. He reminded Oikawa of the fact that he isn’t the only one wanting to beat Shiratorizawa and quite honestly Iwaizumi does get pissed with the fact in literally anything that has to do with Oikawa thinking he has to do everything alone. He tells Oikawa how AND I QUOTE “No one on our team can take Ushiwaka one on one, but there are six people in a volleyball court! I don’t care if we’re against a first-year prodigy or Ushiwaka! The team with the best six players is obviously the best, moron!”
Along with this, there is also how Oikawa said that he was good in receiving, blocking, spiking, serves but Kageyama was better than him at tosses, Iwaizumi got pissed once again, telling him how he can toss just as good as Kageyama but then Oikawa saying how he gives the best tosses to his teammates and how he won’t lose as a setter.
The two have been best friends for awhile and the fact that just cause Iwaizumi hits him in the show as to show tough love, the fandom writes him off as just an asshole.
Don’t get me started on the scene when Oikawa tosses to Iwa from hella far away, I would make a documentary on that.
Anyways yeah, I’ll do someone next that I have planned already lmao
I didn’t want to touch on the manga though because I haven’t really read it myself.
