Basically, he grew up in a small town mostly made up of humans. But Flynn is a Demi god.
he was the son of Athena, the goddess of the moon.
In his area, Athena was looked at as a horrible being who had resulted in the murder of many families(his backstory dives into the religious construct of the story)

There was a cult, who strongly believed that to create balance, all Demi beings should be killed.
So sum kid stabbed Flynn in the back😳😳
