Ok so here’s how it works:

“If a cell has 2 or 3 cells next to it, it will survive to the next generation. If it has less than 2 or more than 3 cells next to it, it will not go to the next generation and become empty (blank). If an empty cell has 2 or 3 filled cells next to it, it will become a filled cell in the next generation.”

So yeah
