HIS WHOLE CHARACTER ,,,,

he’s a huge comfort character to me ugh
i loved his growth
born being hooked to volleyball instantly, as his grandpa encouraged it
mf looked so cute as a baby, coming from someone who hates kids btw
his relationship between his grandpa was beautiful
his grandpa encouraging him and them sharing a love for volleyball
kageyama was so excited when he finally got on a time, he wanted to show his jersey like AUGH
kageyama WAS a sweet kid ,, he just wanted to learn from his peer, oikawa tooru.
but suddenly, in his middle school year, end of his first year I believe(?), his grandpa passed away
this changed kageyama so much.
he lashed out at his teammates, he couldn’t trust anyone, he was just a scared kid.
being captain and going through this, it was so overwhelming, soon his teammates of kitagawa first, turned on him.
they didn’t like him, he was then given the name “king of the court” in a derogatory manner.
this stuck with kindaichi and kunimi, as we see later on, when they go to aoba johsai.
anyways, later on, he meets someone who changes him completely: shoyo hinata.
I don’t think people quite realize how important shoyo is as a MC and a friend. playing against shoyo, obviously tobio seeing how he what a sloppy team, since it was the team he made for only that match, we learn how shoyo was the only one on his team, his school had no team. he had to use friends.
tobio playing shoyo, he sees shoyo do his jump, he was mesmerized, he was taken away.
but alas, shoyo did lose, making kitagawa win.
but the most important thing happens, their promise.
kagehina’s promise being “then someday, im gonna beat you!! and im gonna be the one who gets to stay in the court the longest than anybody else!! and don’t you forget it, in the end, the one who’s gonna finally beat you, is me! even if that takes ten years or twenty, IM GONNA DO IT!” - (shoyo hinata, chapter 37)
this leads to their rivalry. once this interaction ends, timeskip to them having to go to high school. kageyama applied to shiratorizawa, just like his grandfather did, kageyama did not make the cut though. kageyama instead went to karasuno high school. he sees shoyo, the two confused.
