queercoded or NDcoded
today, we focus on NDcoded characters
coded meaning the character has the traits and behavior of whatever mentioned but it isn’t canon
So neurodivergent coded characters
I’m talking abt the main two in this series: Wakatoshi Ushijima and Tobio Kageyama
I’ve seen many ND people in the fandom say that the two are ND for their lack of social cues(also hyperfixation on volleyball, being described “head empty only volleyball”)and the characters get horrible rep in the fandom from it.

So these two
First up, Ushijima
As quoted from the wiki,

“Ushijima is a quiet and stoic individual, rarely ever speaking and often maintaining the same fierce expression on his face.”
Another thing is,

“One of Ushijima’s most notable characteristics is his tendency to bluntly say what is on his mind, causing him to come off as tactless or rude. He does not seem to be able to read people, and often takes the jokes and figurative language from others literally. Despite this, it is noted that when Ushijima does give actual praise or support, it is completely sincere as he never sugarcoats or minces his words. Due to his limited social skills and being incredibly earnest, Ushijima can appear awkward and unintentionally funny. This is seen when he prioritized reading the ads in magazines instead of the actual content.”

Despite all of this, the fandom writes him off as a robot or completely emotionless, which is not true at all. Just because he lacks social cues and is awkward, does NOT mean he’s a robot. Sure, his emotions don’t come out like Bokuto(ANOTHER ND CODED CHARACTER; MOSTLY ADHD) it does not mean he doesn’t have them ??? It’s so dumb that they disregard him completely. It’s quite harmful again with how the fandom takes this, they make jokes out of it, constantly using “😐”

Next up, Tobio Kageyama

“Perpetually sullen, arrogant, and undeniably short-tempered, Kageyama originally came off as a typical overbearing perfectionist, caring only about winning and completely disregarding the opinions and well-being of his teammates. His habit of complaining about their performance and barking orders at them eventually led the other players in Kitagawa Daiichi to nickname him the "King of the Court", a constant reminder of the oppressive, egocentric attitude he demonstrated during his volleyball career in junior high.

Unbeknownst to the majority of his schoolmates and acquaintances, however, he is much more sensitive and childish than he appears to be; he simply does not know how to control his frustration, and hence expresses his thoughts and emotions in an inappropriate way.

Kageyama, from the fandom, is seen as abusive because of his past and that’s stupid as fuck. His grandpa had just passed, and Kageyama did not know how to cope with it properly so he took it out on others. What also didn’t help was his lack of communication, making him look like a complete dick. This leads into him being socially awkward and once his teammates at Kitagawa turned on him, he got trust issues too. Him lacking social cues making him not sure how to act, usually he seems hot-headed because of it.

The fandom just writes him off as one trait or they will make him abusive. Just for him lacking social cues 😐‼️ I’ve seen many ND Haikyuu fans point this out and it is harmful !!

Small thing but yes, there are other haikyuu characters that are ND coded but I wanted to talk abt the main two.
