“Guilty”

Alright...
the first thing to note is the fact that each of the people who were killed have similarities to his family members... the ages and/or some characteristics
The Josh (younger brother) is said to have “bright blue eyes” and Philip (the random victim) had “piercing, dead, blue eyes”
There are many other things like similarities throughout the story..
Something else to note is... all of ####’s family died in a fire... something I forgot to add (😅) is that none of them where even singed.. they were suffocated
In some places it does hint to suffocation though...
if you notice... ALL of the random killings were some form of suffocation
Drowning, choking (strangling), etc.

At the beginning of the story it mentions “it’s my fault anyway” and then continues with saying things along the lines of “I should have died as well” or “I should have died and not them”
This indicates that #### is blaming himself and therefore has guilt
“It’d be better just to be found guilty and sentenced to death than living with this... this weight.”
Something that isn’t mentioned in the story (because it’s from ####’s perspective) is that it ISN’T his fault. He’s simply blaming himself and has survivors guilt

He believes he is at fault and should be punished... which strangely enough is why he murders the five people.
He’ll be condemned for the murder he is guilty of.
“I practically killed them all”
“This isn’t justice”
“Will they ever learn who did this and punish him??”
(he refers to the murderer as “him” because he knows that he is himself.)
“I wouldn’t kill them! Why would I kill them???”
(He’s actually not referring to the “victims”.. he’s referring to his family... he’s trying to un-convince himself of what he has already convinced himself of... that he is the one who killed them)
“Who killed them?”
(It’s a rhetorical question and again hes talking about his family... because he “knows” he’s the one that killed them)

Slowly the guilt and grief from the sudden deaths of his family is slowly driving him insane
“So much death... so many lifeless bodies...
Why, why, why???”

He does know that he killed the random people, but at the same time he doesn’t
He’s trying to convince himself that he’s innocent but yet he’s beating himself up constantly asking how someone could be so heartless or monstrous
Once referring to himself as a “psycho”

Every time he kills those victims he’s not even really sane... everything is completely messing with his mind and he can’t think straight
Inside of his mind everything feels desperate
“Why, why, why???”
The reason he (or his insanity) doesn’t let himself be caught immediately is because he wants to have the punishment he “deserves”. He wants to be convicted of Five murders.
He wants to finally feel the punishment of his “own careless stupidity”

Throughout the story he appears to be talking about certain things but in truth he’s talking about his dead family or himself
“How could someone kill a little girl...? How heartless do you have to be...?
I only hope the real murderer is punished...”

His mind is so fragmented that he can barely think
But In the end he looks at all of the pictures and suddenly realizes everything
All of the people he killed look like his family members...
he realizes he IS the killer and finally excepts the punishment he’s known he deserved all along.
So he pleads guilty.
