today a year ago, i said goodbye to my friends, friends that would never again talk to me, and left the school door and to my car to drive to el paso

today a year ago, i took a friend’s peppa stuffed animal and promised i would have it fixed by the time i came back, i also promised to give her a worm on a string for a rip-off price of two dollars

a year ago today, i talked with others about our seventh grade field trip to austin, a field trip we had waited for since we came to the school, a field trip we never expected

a year ago today, was truly, in my opinion at least, the last normal day of life
