β¨Diversityβ¨ π³οΈβππ―π²π΅π¦
As a well known comic artist and animator, I'm actually really glad that I can bring diversity to the table within the art community, not only as a person of the LGBT community but also as a woman of color who is both Black and Hispanic. To be honest, growing up as a kid I didn't get the luxury of seeing many people of color in anime series. People of color were either nonexistent or just sprinkled randomly in the series. But with my comic series, I'm aiming to change that. Representation is so important, especially for youth. They want to see characters they can relate to. So that's also another reason I don't shy away from drawing women with afros. Our natural hair is so beautiful. You don't have to have long flowing hair to be seen as a beautiful woman. I embrace my afro a lot. I grew up getting relaxers to straighten my hair but I'm glad that as an adult I made the choice to stop doing that and let my hair grow the way it was naturally meant to. π But anyway that's I'm proud of my characters and love drawing them. Even on this app I don't see too many characters of color being drawn. π But it's ok cause I feel like I have a ton of diversity to offer and that makes me feel pretty great as an artist. βΊοΈβπ½π I don't just want my series to be groundbreaking for the LGBT community but also for people of color (especially women). There's so much power in the way I represent myself and my characters and I'm proud that I've been an inspiration to so many youth so far, especially those of color who don't get to see enough representation of their race in the world. πβπ½π€
