Unknown World part 6
Chapter 10
I was by Dito, who I thought was the leader of the group till all the others started saying their thoughts and doing what they pleased. He had told me how to slow my breathing so it looked as if I was just a rock. I was confused as to what was going on. None of it made sense. If a cat could pin a wolf why would we all hide? Did Craterday and Coil know what was happening? Is that why Craterday shoved me up to go by Dito? And why did Coil pull Stem in the cave with him? What's going on? I wanted to ask Dito but seven mean looking wolves came out of the forest. Two looked completely black, three were brown and two were grey. One of the black wolves had green eyes the other had brown. All three brown wolves had slightly different color yellow eyes. The grey wolves both had blue eyes.
No one talked but out of the corner of my eye I saw Mroto draw back the stick with string and carefully place the feathered stick on it. How did these animals hold such weapons? Why not just use your claws and fangs? Dito hadn't moved yet and I had no sight of Coil, Stem, or Tinko. I could just barely see where Kinto was and he made no move like me and Dito. Craterday was gone, nowhere to be seen.
Mroto aimed her weapon right at the lead black wolf with the green eyes. I didn't know if Tinko could aim his without being seen or not and I still had no clue about Craterday who seemed to always have surprises. Mroto flicked her tail and three feathered sticks shot out and hit three of the seven wolves in the head. The lead black wolf and both grey wolves. Still Kinto and Dito didn't move. So that meant Tinko and Craterday shot as well.
Mroto moved across the branch to a new position as the group looked around to where she was before. Dito looked at me, "stay put. Let 'em move. They best shooters." Which I believe went without saying. They all made decent shots. As Mroto moved I lost sight of her but I did see Craterday for a small amount of time before I didn't again.
Tinto must have moved but I didn't know. He was directly below me. Again three feathered sticks shot out but only one hit. One of the brown ones dropped dead I'd think. The other two landed at their paws. As the rest tried to run Dito signaled to jump down and Kinto came out. In no time Coil, Stem, Tinto, Mroto, and Craterday were all out. We had them surrounded but why? I didn't know.
"What do you want Dito?" The remaining black wolf asks him. Well he didn't necessarily ask, he more or less demanded it and growled at him.
"Back to you, Konter." Dito asks him quite calmly. Very calm in that matter.
Konter looks at him. He gave him like an evil stare. "Trying to speak with you know who." The wolves that attached us at the start looked at one another.
"What do you have to do with Lert and Neako?" Mroto asks. She got strange looks from the three remaining wolves' eyes went right to the cat. I heard something pull back and the rest apparently did too. "Arrow pulled back! Everyone split!" Mroto once again jumps to the trees. I went with Craterday this time. Dito and Coil ran to the top of the cave. Tinko and Kinto ran into the cave. Stem after a small freeze ran into the cave as well.
"What's an arrow?" I had no choice but to ask it. Otherwise more questions would come out and he seemed to know it too.
"It's what's pulled back from the bow." He looked back to see my clear confusion. I knew he knew I had no clue what either were. "You know when Dito and I first came out? What we were holding was a bow. On the bow is an arrow." I knew what he was talking about now. And as I thought about what he was talking about I realized that he was not even close to where I was standing.
"Why are you moving so fast? You know I'm still not used to so much,'' I couldn't finish or I'd have some trouble. Craterday had pinned me on the ground with this paw at my throat. "Wh-what a-are y-you d-do-doin-doing." I could hardly form any words. He was starting to scare me. Why would he attack me? Did I do something wrong? Is someone near that I didn't hear?
"Shut up and act like I'm trying to kill you." He growled at me. I was confused but did as he said. I tried to yell for help but no noise came out. I tried struggling out but I couldn't. A group looks at us and nods their head in almost what looked like approval as he was 'trying to kill me' but not really.
He finally let's off me and looks around. Then he helps me up.
"Mind explaining? You could've just killed me!" He looked at me with question in his eyes then understanding.
"Well you're alive ain't you? So I didn't kill you." He looks away and continues forward. All I knew is that as soon as the group split we entered the woods.
Soon the woods ended and we were on grasslands for a bit before we started climbing up a cliff. Craterday made sure I was at least one jump in front of him.
I didn't know why but I knew there would and there had to be an explanation for why we all left the forest and split.
Chapter 11
Dito led Coil up the cave as far as he could go before descending again. Coil had kept up decently well. The cave was somewhat tall but not by too much. Difficult to climb that was for sure. Craterday and Leaf had disappeared and at first if you looked very carefully you could see Mroto in the trees. The animals that went in the cave had to be careful by far. Hopefully Tinko can make a portal and get to the meeting place. He's the only one who knows how. I'm not so sure about the group we met but they don't seem like the wolves to be able to do so.
Craterday was an assassin so hopefully he knows at least one of the meeting spots. If he can get there then we can all group by either going to the same one or meeting at the main one.
"Came on. I hope to get to one of the Assassin Meeting Spots in about a day and a half." Coil was showing no need or want to stop. Which may help us get to the spot rather quickly but Stem and Leaf probably aren't used to it. All the running and everything. They definitely don't seem like the wolves to do this stuff. "Are you used to traveling long distances? You seem quite fine to be traveling fast as well."
"Yes, Craterday and I travel fast most of the time. I'm also used to staying up for long periods of time." Coil explains not stopping one bit. Good then we should make it when I want to.
Once we were off the cave we were in the forest around it. I knew we were heading towards the desert forest area. Where the two biomes meet one another and kinda mix. There was some sand mixed with dirt and dirt mixed in sand. The trees near there could be half dead or completely dead. But they still all stayed mostly straight. As most dead trees some had fallen down, but most stayed standing. There was a meeting place on the desert forest border. It was a small one and hardly anyone used it but it should do the job that they needed.
We'd traveled through the night. The forest had darkened greatly but neither of us had complications getting through most of it. There were a few spots where we got tangled in some brush and vines. Coil hadn't slown down nor complained about the night's travel. It was a bit past dawn and the sun had started to rise so that even between all the trees we could see the sunlight. As we headed for the sunlight the birds in the trees started awakening. Coil looked up to see a parrot fly above us. Beautiful as it was we had to keep moving.
"So how far is this meeting spot for you Assassins. I mean if you start going through portals to get to the main spot, couldn't we have just opened one to get to the main?" Coil had a point. As much as I'd rather just gone through a portal in the beginning I couldn't make one. I was never shown how, but I do know how to put coordinates in them.
"Not too far. Around Noon High we should be there. I do believe that I would have opened a portal as soon as we left the area, if I could." I knew that the last part had a tone of annoness to it and I could see him flinch back as if I was going to hurt him. "Look I never knew or was shown how to make a portal but I do know how they work and what to do once one is made. There are some perpetual portals that anyone can open if they know the words to do so." He nodded behind me in understanding.
"Makes sense." He drops into an attack crouch. I had heard the noise in the trees without stopping or paying much attention to them.
"What are you doing? Look up. It's just Mroto. She's been trailing us for a while. " The cat was skilled at being silent and moving fast among the trees. Mroto was only giving her a fright. She had found us around Moon Shine that night. I had been able to identify her only because her smell was natural for me to smell.
"Sorry for the fright. I don't try to make noise. But a dense bird was protecting her young when I went by. Scared me as much as I scared you." Coil had stood up and looked embarrassed. Now that Mroto had made it clear she was here we continued moving through a silent command.
It wasn't long before we saw the border between the two biomes. It was close to Noon High once we left the forest. Mroto had joined us in walking once the trees thinned out into the desert.
"That's strange, when does a tree just grow out of the middle of the cave?" Coils' confusion was almost amusing. Just out of nowhere and with full surprise he jumped up and claimed it.
"That's because it's the meeting place." Mroto too had almost started to laugh. I couldn't blame her. It's not normal for us to lead a non-assassin to one of these places.
"Come on, we don't have all day. I'd like to get with the rest. We need to get back to the main. Hopefully everyone will get there before New Moon." I knew I was rushing them. But those wolves that pulled the arrows were assassin trained but we're against us. They'd rather us all dead then doing our missions.
Mroto led us into the cave and to a portal. "aperto a main" the portal then opened and we went through it.
We entered a wooded area, it was impossible to get in unless you were an assassin or knew the coordinates. There was a place to make swords, dagers, bows and arrows. There was a place to start the fire and a metal thing to make the actual thing. In the back there was a small natural pool. On one of the walls there were some starter handles. If in a rush you just had to add them on, if not you could engrave a certain design. Mine had a snake like engraving on it. Cobra if I remember correctly.
Not every wolf could make a weapon or engrave things on it. Only special trained wolves could do that job to make them last. You had to have certain skills that others didn't. Sharp teeth, a good eye, and strong hind paws. Even stronger than wolves who stand to fight.
"Wow this place is dark but definitely beautiful." Coil had looked around as well.
"It is isn't it." I hadn't even realized that Tinko, Kinko, and Stem had arrived. "I almost miss going to meetings." Tinko and Kinko had missed that last couple of main meetings due to missions they went on.
"Didn't even know you all got here yet." I claimed, not many things do I not hear.
"It was kinda fun, except the long run everywhere. Well till Tinko opened the portal." Stem was very optimistic about the trip then and what's to come. "Is Leaf and Craterday here yet?"
"No, I haven't seen them since we split." Coil points out. I wasn't necessarily paying attention to them but I knew I had seen them leave.
"I believe Craterday was going to lead them off to allow us to get away. He had deliberately gone the direction they were all in. Which would explain why he's not here, going their way, and not coming to the detection the rest of us went." Mroto too had a point.
"We'll just have to wait and see. If they aren't here by new moon we'll look for them." I seemed to have concluded that conversation. Stem and Coil curl up to sleep as does the rest of us. It was a long journey and I'm sure rather we want to admit it or not but a hard one. I went next to the weapon making place. It was warmer and had a cave-like feel to it.
