this is literally me just ranting BUUT

its the fact i only see around maybe four people actually standing up against all the damn white washing going on within mochis new contest , or at least having an opinion on it ,
while the rest of ya’ll are just completely ignoring it and complementing the work ,
or straight up arguing against the people who are trying to shed light of what’s happening and what the issue is .

i’m not mad that not everyone is speaking against what some of these artists are doing , especially as a ton of people prefer not to get involved in drama or arguments which i completely respect , or just don’t have much knowledge on white washing ;
which i’m sure why mochi isn’t speaking up against it . she’s more civil and never seeming to look for drama, and if she were to say something i know damn well a lot of you mfs would start bashing her .

but it’s y’all going out of your way to make an argument and defend the art against white washing or the artist making the character so many shades lighter and whiter .
ya’ll pls educate yourself .

i don’t think ya’ll understand how disgusting and common white washing really is .
it’s even a trend now amongst fandoms like crk , genshin impact , and has been with danganronpa ; and extremely common to see when artists will go and color poc characters from an anime / or fanart from an anime white .
look up on any social and i’m sure you’ll see a poc character stripped of their colour . it’s not just an “oopsie”

but honestly how difficult is it to keep the colour of a character , or at least try and come close ? ya’ll have no issue keeping white characters white , but you can’t keep black characters black ?
last i checked we have three perfect colours in the grid which could be used , freak of nature and orange_juice (follower goal 10) being perfect examples of one of them , so there should’ve been no issue of anyone getting their hands on a perfect skin tone .

especially as i don’t expect an accurate color . that’s way too much to ask for as i’m sure not many people are going to go in and color drop the hexs or toggle with sliders for a century , and i’m not even sure if everyone has sliders yet , ,
but the fact a ton of these artists go and choose skin colours for straight up white people or such pale and ghostly colours for a dark skinned character has no excuse and is just gross . ONE OF THEM IS EVEN YELLOW :(

it doesn’t matter if you regularly draw white characters or characters with pale skin , nor does it matter if you have never drawn a black character before . Unless you draw semi realistic features , your defense isn’t valid , and you could easily just grab that bucket tool and fix your mistake .


and don’t get my started with all the other excuses , “it’s a style” “its the lighting” “its not a big deal”
white washing isn’t a style , and styles usually are the way people draw , shade , and highlight ; i will admit some people have that pastel or dark colours they will only use bc of their aesthetic , but that still doesn’t white wash characters , they’ll just be acceptably a bit lighter or darker
making black characters white isn’t a style , that’s a choice in the art , ,

lighting doesn’t wash out skin colour to that degree nor the whole body, ,

and white washing is literally racist and has been a big deal for so long
you white people with mighty privilege don’t deal or face anything like that , and a ton of poc don’t face the hate black people do
ya’ll are so blind and stubborn to accept this shit is so wrong on so many different levels
this isn’t an overreaction , you just don’t understand how horrible and discriminative it is
what so wrong with a black character THAT YOU CANT MAKE HER BLACK ? ?


i don’t really stand by the statement if you can’t draw all races you’re not a good artist , but i defiantly stand by if you choose to white wash or mute a poc character you’re a horrible artist . because at that point there’s no reason to even be WILLINGLY drawing the character if you choose to be disrespectful and DELIBERATELY not draw them how they are . idc if the drawing is “cute” or the artists style is appealing , its still horrible art .

i’m sure if some quality art was posted showing black face or homophobic representation y’all wouldn’t be calling that cute now would you ?

black people and have been dealing with this for so long , and in 2021 ya’ll are still doing it , ,
you’re stripping a poc character of their identity , race , and rep .
i could honestly slap racism on all of this ,
as it just goes to show many of these artists have a favor of white / light > black , and refuse to put in any effort .
it was a ‘draw this in your style’ not ‘draw this as a different race’

also if you’re ever wanting to get accurate colours , you can download ibis paint ( for free ! ) , take an ss of whatever colour you want and colour drop it in the app , and looking at the colour it gives you the hex + slider numbers that you can transfer to AM ^^
procreate also works this way too !
