What if Pickett's Charge Never Happens?
Most likely, the overall outcome would not have been any different. The rebel army was pretty beat up already, even without that last futile charge, and the Union position was pretty much impregnable at that point. They might have tried another assault the next day, which would have been repelled with heavy casualties the same way their assaults on days 2 and 3 were. Otherwise, they would have had to retreat all the same, with maybe 4 or 5 thousand fewer casualties but still with most of their ammunition and food used up and tens of thousands of wounded soldiers to care for. They certainly would not have been in any shape to continue the campaign regardless.
