In toe-tips, the language didn't evolve to include those words. We have toe tips, we just don't call them by that name. We say tip-toe in reference to trying to walk slowly or carefully, as if one is on the tips of their toes. We can't do it with fingers since It's near impossible. Said this once in another post.
