Battle of Majuba Hill (Worst British Military Defeat before The Fall of Singapore)

Battle Of Majuba Hill was Britain's Worst Military Defeat, a Nation of Professionalism was lost by a Nation of Farmers and Militia.

The Battle was a Humiliating to the British Government and its Military it symbolizes the ‘Beginning of the Decline of the British Empire’ To Historians like Me.

The Battle was Commanded by Major General George Colley who led the Invasion. The British Army totaled about 405 Troops from 58th Regiment, 92nd Gordon Highlanders, and a Few Naval Brigade. The British Set up defenses on top of Majuba Hill the Boers knew that the British would set up defenses. And Had to make a Choice. There were two possible choices.

Boers Choices
1. Set up and Besiege the British and risk of British Reinforcements Arrive

2. Risking an Assault

They chose to Assault Majuba. The Plan was Risky but it proved to be a Correct choice for the Boers because Major General George Colley said to an Officer

“The Boers are not taking off such a Ridiculous Attempt” -George Colley

The Boers started the Attack in the Early Morning catching the British by Suprise and The British Fire back at the Boers in their Defensive Positions. The Boers continued to assault the British with steady progress. And When they got on top of the Hill the British began a Disorderly Rout.

The Battle resulted in a Boer Victory. For in the next 2 Months Britain signed a Peace Treaty between the Boers and declared Independence from the British.
