MV Britannic | “An Unexpected Popularity” | Part 3

The MV Britannic gained considerable public attention during her Maiden Voyage with an estimated 14,000 People gathering to see the vessel in Liverpool. And when the MV Britannic arrived in New York, the Vessel was welcomed by 1,500 People who paid a dollar to take a tour of the vessel. Initially, the vessel operated at 16 knots, but after a few voyages, the vessel's speed increased from 17.5 knots to 19 knots while sailing across the Atlantic. While the MV Britannic is popular the boat carries about 609 passengers per voyage during the Vessel's 15 Months of Service about 40% of the Vessels Capacity. And due to the Vessel's Popularity, MV Britannic proved to be the most profitable Oceanliner in the Struggling White Star Line in 1931, and in the years that followed, MV Britannic's Popularity continued to grow. By 1933, the Vessel exceeded a Thousand Passengers per Voyages amounting to 65% of the Vessels Capacity. (It might not sound that high but it is the Highest Rated Capacity for any Transatlantic Vessel at that Time). The MV Britannic and MV Georgic we're rare bright spots in the industry struggling to survive The Great Depression. But their success could not be undone by Lord Kilsen, As economic conditions worsen, His Debts mounted. The Situation came in 1931 when he was accused of Fraud and Imprisoned. This Left the Shipping Company in complete disarray. By that Moment the White Star Line's only hope for Survival was Support from the British Government and agreed only on one condition they would need to merge with their long-time rival, The Cunard Line which was experiencing a dire financial situation of its own.

On May 10, 1934, Thomas Ismay and Samuel from the Cunard Line formed the Cunard White Star Line. The Merge of the Two Rivals would prove to be the end of the White Star Line, But the MV Britannic would carry the White Star Line's Legacy through the Post-War era.
