Yoyoy Villame

He was a Native of Calape, Bohol Province, and was the youngest amongst 10 Children he started composing songs for the Boy Scouts during his Elementary years and dropped out of School after his Second Year of High School, he joined the Army and after many unhappy year's on the army he asked for a discharge and became a Jeepney Driver.

In 1965 he formed a Rondalla band with some Jeepney Drivers and Yoyoy sang and played the mandolin. His first recorded song was ‘Magellan’ and the song became a wild hit in the Philippines.

His Popular song wasn't Magellan it was a made-up Chinese-sounding song called ‘Butsekik’ it is one of the most familiar songs in the Philippines to this day.

He died in 2007, from Cardiac Arrest on May 7.

Yoyoy Villame inspired many Artists in the age of the Filipino Music Era. And it's quite a shame that he died at a fairly young age of 74 and he inspired me to be the way I am.

(74 is still a young age in the Philippines and when about 90 and 100 that's considered old age)
