AnimeMaker needs fixing
Aside from the bugs, glitches, lag, and lack of art tools; this platform NEEDS more moderation. When I first joined this app years ago, it wasn’t nearly as creepy and toxic as it is now. You can maybe say it’s because of the growing community now joining this app and how hate and toxicity is more widespread than ever online; we can also make a point that kids are now gaining access to the internet earlier and are growing up in a generation with social media being present everywhere.
This being said, I believe it is only one person moderating this app: Kentaro Matsumae (correct me if I am wrong), who is the developer of this app. It’s been grown to be a bigger app than I could’ve ever imagined when I first joined! Since more and more users are joining daily, there should be more moderators; especially if the app is labeled as 12+ on the App Store. I understand that it can be hard for a single man to do this all, but a system should be put in place and reporting content should actually be looked at rather than pushed aside. In my time of occasionally browsing this app, I have seen: Hateful content, harassment and bullying, and an increasing amount of sexual content. If this is going to be an app for children, there has to be stricter guidelines for things that are and aren’t allowed and what can and can’t be removed. I do, however, also agree that parents of the children should be the ones to also teach their kids how to be safe online. It goes hand-in-hand.
Safety of minors is important. Kids are impressionable, and the hateful and sometimes predatory nature of this app (and some creators) can definitely make a negative lasting impact. I have seen numerous posts of minors deeply distressed about things they’ve seen on the internet, or quarrels they’ve had with their friends on here; I’ve experienced that as well. I suggest for there to be a more impactful report system, so you are notified that the user you reported IS being looked at and whether or not it’s a valid report. Links provided should also be viewed, and I suggest a community page where issues can be discussed with the main creator of this app. While I agree that a full lockdown and complete restriction on this app is unfair and usually doesn’t work or end well, a lot is flying under the radar that shouldn’t be.
If anyone read this and got this far, tell me your thoughts and what you think should or shouldn’t happen to help this app. Thank you.
