The grayscale is used to show the world is bleak and colorless with the moving things indicating that there is still life but only minding their business and not other people?

I’m sorry if I got that word because sometime the phasing of the words in a sentence just confuses me.Was I supposed to examine this piece of animation and determine the meaning behind it?
