Well. You see, If we lay down a single stick, it can be considered to be 1, and if I took another stick and layed it down next to the first, that is 2. Now if I lay down another stick by the first two, that is 3, if I lay another stick down by the first 3, that is 4. Now if I lay down another stick by the first 4, that is 5. But if I remove 4, there is 1. If I add the 4 sticks back with the 1 stick, we would have added 1 stick 4 times next to the first stuck, therefore meaning 1+4 =5
