Dolphins can hold their breath for 15 minutes
Dolphins are mammals and we know this by the fact they make sounds, they swim up and down and not side to side, they breathe air, and female dolphins have nipples
Dolphins are the second most intelligent animals in the world, under apes.
They’re the only mammals besides us who mate for fun
A female dolphin only has one calf every 2 years. Twins are super rare.
Dolphins fully mature at the age of 15. Females mature faster.
Dolphins have alphas
It’s normal for dolphins to have scratches and they’re encouraged to an extent. Those scratches are called “social marks”. These happen when dolphins play, fight or mate. Due to having no hands, they do these things with their teeth.
Dolphins have 88-100 teeth. They lose one, they don’t get a new one.
Dolphins swallow their food whole, they never chew. Those teeth are there for defense, cutting and holding its food.
Dolphins live 25-30 years in wild. They used to live to be older but due to pollution, boats, other dolphins and orcas, they live shortly. In human care (if it’s proper care and not just having them for human entertainment) they live to be 60-75.
Baby dolphins grow fast. At the age of 5, they’re already 6 feet long and 300 pounds of pure muscle and cartilage.
Dolphin pectoral fins have bones. 5 finger bones to be exact. The tail and dorsal have no bones.
Dolphins have belly buttons.
A female dolphin has a vagina and two lines where her nipples are. A male has a long slit where his penis is hiding. It’s bigger than a females vagina and he has no mammary glands.
Dolphins in human care can be taught not to force mating from a young age
Females can be dominate over males
Dolphins have no vocal cords. They squeeze air through the blowhole to make sounds.
A dolphins beak can break your spine if it hits you.
Dolphins swim 30-40 miles per hour
Dolphins jump 16-18 feet in the air with their powerful tails
