First time begin harassed in public for begin a furry (information in description)

So it was about 1:27pm and I was thinking about going around spreading positive things while wearing my fursuit bc the town is friendly to furrys (about 80% of the town is) and as I was walking by someone looked at me weird and said "ew what the fuck are you" now me begin me i said "oh you mean the fursuit" (just so u know it's a bear with wings) and he says "A FURRY" (loudly) and I rub my arm saying "yeah whats....whats wrong with it?" And he just says something that hurt me and it made me rethink wearing my fursuit outside he said "fucking he'll you like some pet you look awful mate you fucking stupid sad and you can't even show your true self little pet dog" (not exactly but what it felt like he said) and this hurt me hard and 3 people and my freind rushed over to shout yell and someone even shoved the guy and he ran off and I was just standing there and luckily my freind was there or I would have probably never wore my fursuit again because that really hurt me and it really felt like I had just been shamed for what I like BEACUSE THAT WHAT HAPPENED I just really wish I did this a different day
(BTW if it feels off its bc I dont remember it fully this is just I remember or what I think was said by it was HOURS AGO so yh)
