It’s important to have contrast between the foreground (your character) and the background, usually artists choose to make one light and the other dark. In your drawing they have very similar values so they kind of blend together and appear to have no depth.
+ if you REALLY don’t want to change the colors, or even in addition to changing the colors, you can just do a thin white outline around whatever you want to separate. But don’t overuse it. For example you could outline the character to stand out from the bg, and optionally outline the arms/hands aswell since they blend in with the rest of the character.
