Dash tries being nice lol

It was one of his co-worker’s birthdays, and he couldn’t avoid it. The young lion had insisted everyone came to his party. In reality, Dash couldn’t care less, but he was sure he could pretend for a few minutes. He had already put his signature on the card the security dept. had made and brought a box of chocolate for the kid.

The venue was a local bar-cafe type thing. It wasn’t particularly high-budget; there was lights on only one side of the roof making half of it well-lit and the other half quite dim. Most people were congregating on the well-lit side. When he showed up he attracted a few eyes - some of his coworkers made it pretty obvious they didn’t think he would come, and Dash liked to be right, so another reason he’d come was just to spite everyone else. Particularly Maurice. The snarky black and white cat had it in for Dash, who hated him with just as much passion in return.

‘Oh, hey Dash.’ Piped up the lion. ‘Thanks for the presents. Leave them on the table over there.’ He gestured over to said table. Dash was going to reply with a grunt, but Maurice has just whispered something about that to the elephant next to him (he had to stand on a stool) so Dash cracked an awkward smile instead. Ha! The look of surprise on that fleabag’s face, well worth it. The birthday kid looked slightly scared, but cracked an awkward smile back and darted off.

Maurice snickered, and Dash filled with anger. He picked up a chair - wait, no. He’d better not get kicked out of another social event since the wedding a few weeks ago, He might lose his job. It wasn’t a very good look and he needed the money from working as a security guard to pay rent and look after Rider.
He puts the chair back down and walks over to the table, dumping the messily-wrapped gift on the table before going to the bar and walking out with a pint of cider.

He’s done good today, actually. No hitting anyone with chairs or other pieces of wooden furniture, no panic attacks and no yelling. Dash knows Rider would be proud, and cracks a genuine smile this time.
