Mochi’s Classroom: Furries or “Nekos” ( งᵒ̴̶̷᷅ωᵒ̴̶̷᷄)ง⁼³₌₃
Welcome back to my class, Students! ଘ(੭ˊ꒳ˋ)੭✧
Todays topic is about how to tell apart a furry from a “neko”. This was requested by 𝐒𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬™ (I put neko in quotes because I don’t like to use that word. I’ll explain in a bit ( ੭•͈ω•͈)੭)
A furry is an anthropomorphic mammal, meaning, it’s an animal that has human traits. This also applies to scalies (anthropomorphic lizards and amphibians), featheries (anthropomorphic birds), and “slimies” (anthropomorphic amphibians). “But humans are animals, too”. Yes, but for simplicity, I’ll be using animal to refer to creatures other than humans, smarty pants ‧⁺◟( ᵒ̴̶̷̥́ ·̫ ᵒ̴̶̷̣̥̀ )
A zoomorphic human, on the other hand, is giving animal traits to a human.
To tell them apart, I do the “all fours” techniques. Imagine that specific character on all fours. Usually a furry looks like just an animal while a zoomorphic human looks like a human on all fours cosplaying an animal or something ꒰(๑´•.̫ • `๑)꒱
For zoomorphic humans, I like to use the animal and put the gender of the character after it.
For example: Catgirl, Catboy, Catperson, Dogboy, etc
This is because the direct translation of “neko” is cat, not cat person. I find it funny when people say “I’m a neko” because they mean cat person, not just an actual cat ฅ(๑'Δ'๑)
And in other cases, no one would say “I’m an usagi” if their character is a bunny because it’d be random to just use the Japanese word for a bunny. People know what you mean when you say your characters are a “neko”, so you can use it if you like, but I just personally don’t use it ԅ(,,´﹃`,,*ԅ)
(It reminds me if my “weeaboo” days… Please don’t call me a neko (๑ ˊ͈ ᐞ ˋ͈ )ƅ̋ I would explode from embarrassment of my past…)
That’s just my explanation on the two ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶ You don’t have to use this post as law, but that’s how I tell them apart. Some people call any character that’s an animal or a person with animal traits a furry.
