I went to an anime arf class for 3 weeks. And Im going to say my opinion only: in my PERSONAL opinion, I think tracing can be a good way to find your artstyles. What I mean? Like maybe trace the pose of the picture and turn it into a base. (You don't have to agree with me I'm fine with it)
