Mallowfur laughed at Skipperface's jokes, telling her they were good ones. Gorsetail rolled her eyes, and Mistletoeclaw was caught softly chuckling at some of the jokes. "I bet you could even make Gorsetail laugh if you tried Skipperface." He told her. "Sounds like a challenge. Well, challenge accepted! What's my reward?" Skipperface asked. Mistletoeclaw thought for a bit. "How about if you can make Gorsetail laugh by the next gathering, I'll give you half of my prey for a quarter moon. If not, I'll tell Mintface to send you only on border patrols for a quarter moon." "Deal!" Skipperface said. She looked back at Gorsetail and said, "prepare to laugh grumpyface! Because I will make you laugh whether you like it or not! Only thing is; You'll like it!" Skipperface laughed like a villian. Gorsetail scoffed. "You'll fail."

Gorsetail pushed away her thoughts as Mistletoeclaw finished marking the tree. They all walked back to camp. Skipperface was jumping around and telling the patrol to hurry up. "No need to scare the prey away Skipperface, we're trying to stick together so no one gets left behind." Mistletoeclaw said, quickly glancing back at Gorsetail. "Oh right sorry." Skipperface replied and fell back beside Mallowfur, telling her jokes she was thinking of.

Mallowfur looked at Gorsetail again, wanting to try to ask her what was wrong. But she knew she would never open up about her thoughts and feelings, except for her complaints. Sighing, Mallowfur turned her gaze back ahead, and saw the Starfern right up ahead. It was the last stop and they could go back to camp. "Finally, the last stop. I'm ready to go back to camp and eat! I'm starving!" Skipperface said, her mouth watering as she though of a juicy and plump rabbit. Mallowfur chuckled, "yeah I'm a bit hungry too. Let's hurry it up Mistletoeclaw!" "Okay okay, hold on! I'm almost done, sheesh." Mistletoeclaw replied to Mallowfur. Gorsetail looked up at Skipperface and Mallowfur, seeing them giggling. She admitted to herself that she was a bit jealous of their friendship, she wanted to be like them. But she didn't know how to get a friend like that, and she couldn't just change her attitude, it was hard for her to, plus everyone would think she was strange.

Gorsetail was gazing past the river now, enjoying the slight cooling breeze. Mallowfur noticed Gorsetail sitting by the river and called, "hey Gorsetail, are you coming? We just need to mark the last tree then we'll head back to camp!" Gorsetail grunted and rolled her eyes. As she got up she called back, "coming Mallowfur." Then she dragged her paws back to the patrol, hanging at the back.

*As the others marked a bush, Gorsetail approached the river and took a drink. She thought about swimming in it, but she didn't know how to swim, and it would also get her into a lot of trouble.*

"Are you okay Gorsetail? I haven't heard you speak much today." *Mallowfur asked. Gorsetail had a grumpy expression, and grunted before she spoke." It's too hot out here, my paws are burning." *Mallowfur flashed a worried glance at Skipperface. Skipperface leaned closer to Mallowfur and whispered,* " I think it's best to leave her alone today, she seems more grumpy than usual." *Mallowfur nodded but looked back at Gorsetail before catching back up with the rest. They were almost done patrolling, just a few more trees and bushes to mark and they'd be heading back to camp.*

*It is sun high, when all the prey around the forest of WoodClan can be heard scuttling around. On partrol are Mistletoeclaw, Gorsetail, Mallowfur, and Skipperface.* "it's very nice out today, lots of sun and prey." *Mallowfur commented* "yeah, I kind of wish we were on hunting patrol right now, I could just smell all the plump prey!" *Skipperface said.* "we can eat when we get back, Skipperface, I'm sure there'll be plenty left in the freshkill pile." *Mistletoeclaw replied.*
