Skipperface chuckled. "Well, someone ought to do it at somepoint. Could you imagine what it's like to have itchy ticks all over you all day, and you can't even do anything about it? Well, I can tell you that's what will happen when you become an elder. Believe me, Yellowstream complains about it all the time, well besides his prickly bedding."

Skipperface felt a bit bad for the apprentice. "It's alright Mothpaw, I'm sure you could do something to keep you busy. Maybe you could do the elder's ticks or change their bedding?"

Skipperface glanced around the camp where she saw anxiety. She didn't even know if anyone would go on a patrol for the rest of the day. "Well, I don't know, Mothpaw, you already missed your chance today with the border patrol since you needed your sleep. You'll be lucky if I can take you tomorrow, since I'm guessing Mintface and Cootstar would want to lessen the amount of patrols going out and potentially encountering wolves."

"Well," Skipperface began, "even if us clans can have our disagreements, we should never wish bad things to happen to each other. That includes letting us get killed from such creatures like wolves, especially kits. All the clans should help each other when times get severely rough, it's how we survive. I mean, who would we be without the other clans? Also, there are a few trees that have fallen down across the river to use as a path for us who can't swim, they won't support the weight of wolves though, so StreamClan is perfectly safe." Skipperface thought of telling Mothpaw of the story from a long time ago when times got so bad all the clans were forced underground, but he'd probably heard it from the elders a few times already. Skipperface then took another bite of her rabbit.

Skipperface looked over and realized who it was "Oh Mothpaw! Hi! Yeah I can tell you about the wolves. The wolves are like dogs, except much larger, faster and meaner. We can't really predict when they come, but every few seasons, they'll come from the mountains, in search for prey. They've taken many of our lives, especially kits, though they tend to stay away from our camp. So the camp is one of the safest places we can be, if it gets really bad, we'll either have to hide in trees or dig underground, or even seek shelter from StreamClan if possible.

I felt stupid getting among us figures as a 15 (almost 16) year old, especially in 2023, where the game isn't even that relevant anymore lol. but its fine

Skipperface had taken a rabbit from the freshkill pile and was currently eating it, trying to distract herself from the situation with some tasty prey. She also tried to think of some jokes to tell Gorsetail for Mistletoeclaw's bet. Now was definitely not the time to tell the leader about their bet and the gathering of the clan to see Gorsetail laugh. But maybe in a day or two she could ask Cootstar, and prompt that it was to try and cheer the clan up.

Mistletoeclaw woke up Mintface and quickly told him about the wolves, just as Mistletoeclaw finished, Cootstar yowled, "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey, please meet beneath the high treestump for a clan meeting!" Once all cats have gathered, Cootstar announced about the wolves, "we should all stay close to camp, and stay away from the MountainClan border. We can renew the border once we know it's safe. If you even hear another howl, or panting, run back to camp and tell me right away. If they get close, we must all stay in camp for a few days. Clan dismissed." Murmurs of anxiety went through all the clan. Mistletoeclaw ran to his mate Cormorantfoot and made sure she was okay. Gorsetail looked around the camp. Everyone was anxiously running around, and it was too much for her so she went inside the warriors den to sleep it off.

Mistletoeclaw looked at the others and ordered, "we have to run back to camp. I'll tell the leader immediately." The rest of the patrol nodded and they ran back to camp as quickly as they could. Once they got there, Mallowfur went straight to the nursery to warn the Queen, Cormorantfoot, and comfort her. Mistletoeclaw wanted to go see his mate in the nursery too but he had to tell Cootstar and fast. He didn't see him out in the camp so he ran to the leader's den. Mistletoeclaw could see Cootstar asleep, and he felt bad for waking him up but this was important. He shook Cootstar with his paws, "Cootstar this is important wake up!" The leader woke up with a jolt and quickly said, "huh?! I'm awake what's wrong?" "It's the wolves, I believe they're hunting again. I heard them howling." Mistletoeclaw replied quickly. "Okay get Mintface, I'll announce this immediately." Cootstar ordered.

"Oh I have an idea, we should have the clan gather when I finally think of a few jokes I think she'll like! That sounds fun right?" Skipperface exclaimed while jumping excitedly. "Yeah that would be really cool, like a small event." Mallowfur replied, " we should see what Cootstar thinks of this, I'm sure he won't mind, right?" "Yeah I think he'll be open to this, even if it's a bit silly, no harm in a bit of fun right?" Mistletoeclaw answered. Gorsetail thought of what would happen if she either did or didn't laugh. Obviously if she didn't laugh everyone would expect it, but be disappointed. But if she did laugh.. would they be shocked? Would they cheer? Would they murmur in suspicion? Perhaps all of these, but she can't just fake it. She kind of hoped she would laugh just to see what would happen.

Mallowfur laughed at Skipperface's jokes, telling her they were good ones. Gorsetail rolled her eyes, and Mistletoeclaw was caught softly chuckling at some of the jokes. "I bet you could even make Gorsetail laugh if you tried Skipperface." He told her. "Sounds like a challenge. Well, challenge accepted! What's my reward?" Skipperface asked. Mistletoeclaw thought for a bit. "How about if you can make Gorsetail laugh by the next gathering, I'll give you half of my prey for a quarter moon. If not, I'll tell Mintface to send you only on border patrols for a quarter moon." "Deal!" Skipperface said. She looked back at Gorsetail and said, "prepare to laugh grumpyface! Because I will make you laugh whether you like it or not! Only thing is; You'll like it!" Skipperface laughed like a villian. Gorsetail scoffed. "You'll fail."

Gorsetail pushed away her thoughts as Mistletoeclaw finished marking the tree. They all walked back to camp. Skipperface was jumping around and telling the patrol to hurry up. "No need to scare the prey away Skipperface, we're trying to stick together so no one gets left behind." Mistletoeclaw said, quickly glancing back at Gorsetail. "Oh right sorry." Skipperface replied and fell back beside Mallowfur, telling her jokes she was thinking of.
