Dude you cannot convince me dismemberment plan is not one of the greatest bands of all time like I'm one hundred percent biased but also they released emergency and I and then two years later dropped change like that is fucking generational and they don't get the recognition they deserve those albums are fucking incredible and even though they didn't have as much time and effort put into them their first two albums are some of my favourite guilty pleasure albums like for example "!" has some pretty objectively poorly written songs but they still go ferociously hard like I know the songs were lazily made but they all bang in some form or another like even the less energetic ones like I'm going to buy you a gun and Rusty which is actually what I'm listening to right now like those songs go hard as fuck and then you have very high energy songs like WOULDNT you like to know woah why did autocorrect make that all caps anyway there's songs like that and also survey says and 13th and Euclid and then you also have medium energy songs with onward fat girl which I know has dogshit lyrics because it's about hating fat PEIPLE but it goes so fucking hard dude and then don't even get me started on the masterpiece that is if I don't write dude that song is fucking incredible like they could have done a bit more with it but it still is so good and I can't believe it but yeah then there's also dismemberment plan is terrified which is their second album and I'm not as passionate about it but it still has some heat on it like ice of Boston and do the standing still and especially one too many blows to the head all of those songs go cannibalistic anyway rusty is about to end so I should probably wrap this rant up by saying that dismemberment plan is fucking incredible and you should give emergency and I as well as change a listen and then if you're feeling adventurous then listen to their first two albums too but skip uncanny valley that one is shit okay bye mwah
Okay I'm waiting for the bus right now so here's more dismemberment plan yap so like I'll probably give an in-depth paragraph for each album so this one goes to "!" Because FUCK YOU the first one wasn't enough. Also I'm gonna use punctuation this time because it's a lot easier and more natural for me. First things first I want to break down the track list. There are 12 songs on "!" and the album is just under 40 minutes, being 38 minutes long. These 12 songs, in order, are: Survey Says, The Things That Matter, The Small Stuff, OK Jokes Over, Soon to be Ex-Quaker, I'm Going to Buy You a Gun, If I Don't Write, Wouldn't You Like To Know?, 13th and Euclid, Fantastic!, Onward Fat Girl and Rusty. I'm on the bus now but the obsessing must continue. Survey Says is a 2 minute song featuring, to my knowledge, one of Dismemberment Plan's only traditional guitar solos. The song opens with a very high pitched minor second interval meaning it sohnds like shit but perfectly captures the scared and shocked nature of an Exclamation Point. The opening interval is what a video game alert warning would sound like. The things that matter is around 2 minutes and 30 seconds in length and is quite repetitive but has dismemberment plans signature "one bar is gonna be an odd time signature because fuck it" song style in the chorus. The main riff is very cool but the song has a lot of untapped potential and could have been so much more than it is. Either way, it's still a great song and fitting on the album. The small stuff is around 3 minutes long and opens with a very unpleasant guitar line that repeats throughout most of the song. It's a much slower song, ignoring the chorus, and has probably the most untapped potential on "!". I don't personally like it very much but there are some cool vocal things and the drums are neat from what I remember. OK Jokes Over is 4 minutes and 30 seconds long and is one of the more complete and full songs on the album. The opening guitar riff is really cool and the instrumental is pretty interesting. The lyrics are shit and I'm fairly certain the song is about coercing someone into cheating on their partner and being raped. The delivery on the lyrics is fine but it's a bit hard to ignore the subject matter. Hang on getting off the bus now I'll be back to finish this. Hi it's actually the next day and I'm back on the bus let's continue. Soon to be Ex-Quaker is what I THINK is supposed to be Dismemberment Plan's attempt at pop music because of the poppy chorus and the fact they have a clapping part lmfao. Decent song, just under 2 minutes, and a good burst of energy after OK Jokes Over. I'm going to buy you a gun is unlike everything else on this album and honestly even their discography. It's VERY quiet and is one of the lowest energy songs by them apart from Respect Is Due on their second album. The song has very interesting bass lines and a mysterious but simple chorus. It's a very neat song and it should stand out from the rest of the album, but it's forgettable. I think it's about kidnapping someone and forcing them to kill a government official and then running out of town hi I got off the bus again and I probably won't be writing anything until after new years so happy December 30th of 2025 as of now guys!!! Hi I'm back it's January 8 happy new year actually fuck writing more of this I'm gonna put this in my bio now
