Why...

So I had a crush on this guy at school and his friends and my friends are trying to get us together but he keeps running away... so today his friends told me that he wanted to date me, I believed it and I got so happy. Then I told his friend to tell him I want to date him too... but when I got to class my friend told me that his friends did the same thing to another girl that likes him... and I asked one of his friends after school if it was true.. and they said no that it was a prank.. then he laughed. I just felt so embarrassed and stupid..
