Blitzkrieg or lightning warfare is an operational-level military tactic that consists of using mobile forces in quick and surprise attacks, in order to prevent enemy forces from having time to organize the defense. Its three essential elements are the surprise effect, the speed of maneuver and the brutality of the attack, and its main objectives are the demoralization of the enemy and the disorganization of its forces (paralyzing its control centers). The architect of this military tactic would have been the German general Heinz Wilhelm Guderian. The "lightning war" also allowed Germany to dominate almost all of Europe.
