The Masklings - Chapter 1 - Forgetting the Past, Remembering the present.
[NOTE: This series is in Janio's POV]
"Don't forget your lunch, Janio!" I heard my sister, Nahle, call out to me before I walked out the door. I turned over to see her running up to me, holding my lunch bag.
"Nearly forget, thanks sis." I took the bag from her then walked out the door, waving to her behind me. It was the first day in highschool, for me, at least. The highschool was a long walk, my village didn't have my grade level in those highschools. Usually while I walk, I like to think about my family's history. Why are we so hated? I wonder if my mom caused that war. Well, anyway, Half way on my little journey I spot someone.... Well, something... I couldn't spot it out. As I walked up to it, it started to fade. I stopped and turned, continuing on my way.
....
When I got to school, it seemed like I was the only one there. I looked around and just assumed I was early. I went inside the cafeteria, where I saw dozens of kids, about the same age or a little younger. Many were eating, others were talking, and some were in their lockers or heading to their first class. I started to wonder around to see what I can find, while also looking at the paper in my bag. My class numbers. I got some breakfast, ate it, then headed to my first class - Math. I always hated math. I never seemed to understand it. On my way to my class, I decided to claim a locker. Locker 559, right next to the exit, so I could grab my bag on my way out. I put my bag and got what I needed. Suddenly, someone shoved me.
"Hey idiot." I turned around to see some guy. He was pretty big for a highschooler, but I shouldn't judge.
"..Uh.. Oh hello..!-"
"Your in my way."
"Oh.. Sorry about th-"
"So are you gonna move or do I have to move you myself?"
I slowly moved into the crowded hallway. He didn't seem like a good kid, but it's non of my business.
....
Few minutes later, I finally made it to my math classroom. I went to take a seat as the teacher walked in. I didn't know any of these people. I slowly started to zone out on my desk as the teacher started to explain something, I forgot what he was on about, well, I think it was a he. I wasn't able to see them.
".. Ok.. Role call--" That was all I heard untill I ended up passes out on my desk.
......
"Janio?- Not here?"
I woke up to hear people banging on desks, trying to wake me up.
"Janio?"
"!!- Here..!!"
..
I heard kids giggling. I don't think that was a good sign. I looked down at my desk when I started to hear people whispering.
"Why do you think he's wearing that weird mask?"
""Janio', that sounds stupid."
"He looks kinda funny-"
I snapped out of it, as the teacher started to explain the assignment again, they then started to write something on the board. I didn't understand it.
.......
After math, I had science, after that was Art, which was my honest favorite of the whole day. I then had ELA, whatever that means, In between classes I had lunch, too. My last class was Social studies... I never understood the purpose of that class, But I didn't question.
As the dissmisal bell rung, the hallways got crowded again. It seemed like it was more than the morning. I went to grab my bag when suddenly the same dude from earlier came by. Instead of telling me to move, he pushed me over into the crowd in the hallway. I got up, brushed it off, and left for home.
...
The Maskling war was 1 thing I couldn't forget, but I never got it in full deatail. I noted to tell my sister that when I got home. Suddenly, I heard a stick break in the woods. I turned to see what it was. I stopped walking when I turned into the woods. It was black, anything could've jump out. After about 5 minutes of staring into pitch black, I turned back and headed home.
