The Apple & The Kingdom
Everything Is Meaningless
1 The words of the Teacher,[a] son of David, king in Jerusalem:
2 “Meaningless! Meaningless!”
says the Teacher.
“Utterly meaningless!
Everything is meaningless.”
3 What do people gain from all their labors
at which they toil under the sun?
4 Generations come and generations go,
but the earth remains forever.
5 The sun rises and the sun sets,
and hurries back to where it rises.
rises.
6 The wind blows to the south
and turns to the north;
round and round it goes,
ever returning on its course.
7 All streams flow into the sea,
yet the sea is never full.
To the place the streams come from,
there they return again.
8 All things are wearisome,
more than one can say.
The eye never has enough of seeing,
nor the ear its fill of hearing.
9 What has been will be again,
what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.
10 Is there anything of which one can say,
“Look! This is something new”?
It was here already, long ago;
it was here before our time.
11 No one remembers the former generations,
and even those yet to come
will not be remembered
by those who follow them.
Ecclesiasties 1:1-11 NIV
In this passage the author, most possibly King Solomon, is in great dispair. At this moment the king who has amassed an abundant amount of wisdom is questioning his very decision to do so. King Solomon is known as the King who did not ask God for power or riches, rather he asked to be wise. The king while being wise and while having an abundance of all things came to the realization that he, much like the fool, will die. All of the sudden his whole life was meaningless, as he would surely die like the fool and his name would eventually fade and be blotted out underneath the sun. His work, wisdom, items, concubines, children, riches, power, policies, etc. none of it mattered. This is where the apple comes into play. The apple above rots, it comes and then it goes. On the other hand, the Kingdom of God is eternal. The Kingdom of God and the Glory there will be will never run away as the wind does, or rot like the apple. So brothers, sisters, I encourage you to seek not the things of this world. I enjoy you to not chase earthly desires so that your flesh is pleased. Endless pleasure without a rod of correction is from Satan and wishes only to destroy. While the rod of correction is from God and is good. Seek not with your eyes, but with the wisdom of The Spirit of God.
31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
