anyways i was able to make unfinished notes
i dont think id be able to make notes for the other pdf files but here
NOTES FOR BIOLOGY:
I. Fundamentals of Genetics
Heredity - process of transmission of traits of the parent to the offspring
Genetics - study of Heredity
Traits - an offspring's characteristic from the parents/ inherited characteristic
Alleles - different versions of a gene for the same trait/ pair of factors (genes?) controlling the expression of such a trait
Dominant - the trait that is more noticable among the offspring
Recessive - the trait that is less noticable among the offspring and only reappear in F2 generation
Heterozygous - dissimilar alleles (Rr)
Homozygous - similar alleles (RR)
1. 3 Ideas of Hereditary
• Pangene Hypothesis
• Blending Hypothesis
• Blood Theory of Heredity
Pangene Hypothesis
Blending Hypothesis
Blood Theory of Heredity
2. Gregor Johann Mendel
- Father of Genetics
- Did experiments on Peas (Pisum Sativum) to study genetics
- Work recognized later after 50 years by, Hugo de Vries, Karl Correns, Erick von Tschermack
A. 3 reasons for choosing Pisum Sativum to study genetics
1. Have several varieties of easily observable and contrasting characteristis
2. Normally reproduce through self pollination
3. Was a common plant, quick to reproduce
NOTE:
Mendelian factors - were changed to Genes
B. Mendel's observations and principles
1. F1 generations showed no recessive traits/showed only the dominant traits
2. Dominant and recessive genes reappeared in offsprings in F2 generation
3. 3/4 peas for dominant trait, 1/4 peas for recessive trait
4.
a. Genes are particles that come in pairs
b. Law of Segregation
c. Law of Dominance
d. Law of independence Assortment
