Actually that's where you are wrong just because they don't practice dose not mean it's forgotten, plenty of people still participate in old practices relating to them even though it's not there religion

like Tibet which has a Buddhist majority, and xinjiang which is islam but they're population is really small compared to the rest of the country
There's small regions that still do old traditions but still it's pretty much oppressed by the government
