What’s with the “Alpha” “Beta” male sh*t?

I know the topic is maybe done by now (well, except the Sigma males), but I recently thought about it and said to myself “I don’t really understand the concept”. So I just want you guys if you want to, give me a bit more information about it. I know it’s just for sh*ts and giggles but if I have to put myself in it, I would be the Omega. I’m not gay just to let those who don’t know, know. Even if I would let a dude (I’m comfortable with) sleep next to me on the same bed. (If there’s no sexual tension, it’s not gay)
