Flying Jackals

Here’s one of the creature designs I was referring to earlier. I feel that in order to understand these designs, a bit of background information is needed. So this creature comes from a story i’ve been thinking about for the past almost two and a half years (so since 8th grade) and it’s set in a dystopian future where an advanced AI engine gone awry wipes out nearly all of humanity by mutating essentially all life on Earth in order to put humans at the bottom of the food chain. So it’s supposed to be a spec bio sort of thing, but not a completely naturalistic one.

Description: “Winged beasts with a genetic makeup closest to that of Old World bats. Their faces are covered in tough, keratinized skin, they have sparse hair on their backs, and scaly limbs like those of a reptile. The Jackals are built for cracking open their prey, with jaws capable of crushing bone and hindlimbs featuring opposable thumbs which they can use to carry larger prey and drop them from a great height. They mostly feed on carrion and smaller live prey items, but there is a small population in Central America known to feed primarily on humans.”
